Brucella and lentivirus (CAE and maedi) in sheep and goats

Brucellosis has never been found in sheep and goats in Norway. Caprine arthritis-encefalitis (CAE) is occasionally diagnosed, while maedi is a very rare disease.

The progrmame documents status for Brucella melitensis infection in Norway and warrants isolation and testing of imported animals. The surveillance programmes for small ruminant lentivirus documents status and warrants isolating and testing of imported animals.

There has been a surveillance programme for Brucella and maedi  in Norway since 2003, and CAE was included in 2013. The design and composition of the programme has varied over the years.
