The Norwegian aquaculture industry experiences large disease related losses.While viral infections continue to be problematical, production diseasesrelated to smolt quality and various management related factors, contributesubstantially to overall losses. The parasitic crustacean salmon lousecauses large economic losses to the industry and reduced sensitivityto anti-lice treatment is a problem in some parts of the country.

Submissions relating to marine fish species reflect the dynamic nature of the marinefish aquaculture industry. The number of submissions from cod continues to fall, whilethe number from halibut remains stable. For cleaner fish a considerable increase in thenumber of submissions was registered, including a new species, the lumpsucker.
